Stretching the Budget pt. 1

Posted by bethany

Are you running short on cash every pay day? How to stretch your dollar maybe something you need. I know these things have helped me.
1. Look where you are spending money
Are you spending but you dont know where it is going? write down all your expenses. If you are seriously clueless as to where the money goes write down everything. FOr those of us who think that might be impossible you can get a good idea by looking at what you are putting on your debt card, credit card, or writing checks.
2. Put your money in envelopes
This has worked wonders for me. I have always had a food budget but I almost always use to go over. How did I remedy this by putting my money in envelopes and only putting the BIll money in my checking account. If I used my debt card because I went over than I would overdraw the account. I knew this would help I dont want to be in the red.
My envelopes are:
Bills-
goes into the bank to pay them. I put in the savings too. I feel like it should be as a bill so it gets put away. I transfer it out of the account too so it will not be spent.
Groceries-
grocery money
Gas/ Eating out-
since the gas prices are fluctuating so much I found it best to put the 2 together for my sanity.
Mortgage-
goes to the bank when it is due
Tithe-
actually I have a spot I put this in my wallet so I am sure to have it for church.
Thats it!
I try to keep it easy! The easier the better in my household. Yes I feel like Tithe and Savings are very important to stretching your budget. More on this tomorrow.
